The kids ate breakfast on it this morning and placed hot waffles directly on the table top and it left a cloudy mark where the waffles were (looks like it knocked the sheen down and turned it to a matte finish in those areas). Best of all, when the finish starts to wear away after a few years or lots of use, you can reapply a coat of Danish oil, and it will look as good as new again. It is true that danish oil can cause delamination because it penetrates deep into the door hits the glue and causes the delamination.

If you want a shinier finish, wait for for the Danish oil to harden, then buff it with a clean rag between every coat of oil. We have discovered that Howdens don't recommend using Oil for these doors, possibly causing delamination and doesn't seal the door properly. I can't through googling find similar circumstances, but wondered if an oil based varnish or lacquer could be coated on? Danish Oil on oak really brings out the natural look and feel of the wood, enhancing the appearance of oak, as well as protecting it and making the oak easier to clean and maintain. Currently the Blachon Hard Waxoil - Colours is available in a number of shades: Light Oak, Golden Oak, Smoked Oak, Walnut, Black, Graphite, Metallic Grey, Light Grey, White Grey, White, Rough Timber, Old White and Weathered Wood.

A foam backed, De-nibbing Pad removes "nibs" and imperfections in finishes and should be used in between coats of the Danish Oil, and when you have applied the final coat to create a super smooth finish. To achieve a rainbow of colours, one of our more popular products of choice is the Blanchon Hard Waxoil - Colours. The natural finish provided with the application of Danish Oil provides water resistance to all bare woods helping reduce staining and making the wood easier to clean and maintain. I have used oil based poly on red oak stained with Danish oil that has sat for only 2-3 days and it turned out quite nice. Waxed finishes, and all dirt and grease, should be removed with white spirit on a rag using vigorous agitation.

It is easy to apply, has an attractive ‘natural’ low sheen finish and excellent long-term protective properties. If you take a close look at our solid wood surfaces, you will see that the wood is composed of fibre-like grains. But the finish's success depends on the application's quality, the Danish oil used, and the type of oak.

UK products are mainly Tung and/or Linseed oil based, although some use only vegetable oils and synthetic varnishes. This is one of those finishing projects where pretty much anything can be justified, so enjoy the freedom! Applying Danish oil to oak can create a beautiful, low-gloss finish that will last a long time and resist water and other liquids. Care should be taken with some other Danish Oils before doing this, because they often contain synthetic varnish and resins which will block the pores of the wood and plasticise it, removing its natural ability to ‘breathe’ with its surroundings. How did you apply the danish oil, if using it outside it is suggested that you apply with a brush and flood the surface, not removing any excess.
