There’s a scene I always think of in the movie Step Mom, where a dying Susan Sarandon is dancing round the house with her children to a classic Motown track “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough”. This means that with a suitably enabled smartphone you can quickly and easily Bluetooth pair Oxford BT without any need for codes or complicated instructions. This 1960’s-style retro radio is made from a combination of plastic and metal, and feels fairly durable.

Arranged along the top of the radio is a metallic silver control panel which I felt tended somewhat to spoil the retro effect. Plus I do not know of any radios available in the 1960s that featured an LCD screen which provides feedback regarding the current station.

When ever I encounter a product that has “ Oxford” in its title, it does tend to engender visions of a by-gone age. The simple rotary volume and tuning dials coupled with classic style push buttons give the Oxford BT true authenticity.

Brought up to date with DAB, good deep solid sound, better than the original, nice off/off volume control, slightly cheap looking top facia, but OK. The Goodmans Oxford radio is a 1960’s-style FM/DAB/DAB+ radio that comes in a choice of colours: Porcelain White, Moss Green, and Sky Blue. Setting up and learning to use the radio is straightforward, but you might need to check the user manual here. This can be useful for adjusting your antenna to achieve the best possible reception and scanning for a particular channel to update the station list. At the beginning of the day music helps us connect with each other, gives us a positive feeling to take with us. Be aware that you will always get the truth, some of the reviews are good and some might be more negative, so always take them with a pinch of salt!

Goodman, the true vintage representative of the British audio industry, is not far behind with the Oxford range. They mention that the Bluetooth connectivity is easy to set up on their laptop, iPad, or phone, and that it easily tunes in to stations. We bought a factory refurbished radio with some trepidation but it came in manufacturers box, looked brand new and works perfectly.

They love turning the sound up loud, of course, and we dance like loonsbarefoot on the wooden kitchen floors. If you are looking for something more powerful, the ’50s-styled Heritage II is more than just a radio.
