Combined with the recording software I have chosen, the digitized version is almost indistinguishable from its analog source (to this old man’s ears), so what more could I ask for? The ART DJ Pre II provided a very flexible and clear way of boosting the phono signal to match the volume of the AppleTV. A separate RIAA preamp is necessary when you are connecting a turntable to a mixer that does not have one built in.

If you need to amplify and EQ your vinyl records to interface with your audio workstation, sound card, home stereo system or main monitor system, the DJ PRE II gives you flawless audio reproduction in a rugged and reliable package. Either way I still have it in my current setup, and even though a better one can impact the sound quality, I find this one perfect enough, as there are other components (like the speakers and the needle) that have a much greater impact in the final result. The ART DJ Pre II phono amplifier can, for example, be integrated into DJ setups in which very old-school turntables are used.So if you're someone who has a turntable that doesn't have a ground wire, then there's potential that you may not need it with this pre-amp.

If the item comes direct from a manufacturer, it may be delivered in non-retail packaging, such as a plain or unprinted box or plastic bag. I also tweaked the settings in my receiver, mainly the IntelliVolume setting for the particular input I'm using this preamp in. It didn't come with instructions, and there are no instructions on the ART web site either, just a spec sheet.Selecting the low-cut filter makes things better with a positive phase shift that starts at 50 hz and goes up 20 degrees or so at 20 Hz. I have the DJPREII between a Technics SL-1200MK7 and a Focusrite Scarlett 4i4 audio to USB interface. It might be my imagination, but I feel like it makes it sound a little harsher than I like at hi-gain. with other projects now but I will be using it on my computer and receiver eventually to check it out. I hooked this preamp up to my Onkyo TX-NR809 receiver in hopes of it being a much better improvement over the built-in phono preamp in the 809.
